FAQ's

How did you arrive at your Username?

PrincessPinkcat is my username on YouTube and Twitter as well as on my blog. I started using that name when I tried to make a YouTube account and every username I could think of had already been taken. My daughter was using PrincessPinkcat as her username on Runescape and for fun I checked to see if it was taken on YouTube and it wasn't - so my username became PrincessPinkcat. I use the same name for YouTube, blogging and Twitter to make it easier for my followers and subscribers.

When did you first get into makeup?

When I was very young - about 5 or 6, my mother started giving me her old makeup that she didn't want anymore. Then when I turned ten I started reading "Teen" and "Seventeen" magazines religiously. I devoured any makeup tips I could find, and actively searched for more knowledge. My love of makeup never dwindled and I became obsessed with all that is artificial. Learning more and more about makeup and beauty has become my life long quest.

Are you a professional Makeup Artist?

Yes, I am a professional makeup artist. I freelance doing makeup for weddings, graduations, proms and any other events that someone might want to hire me to do their makeup for. I have also worked with a local photographer, and I occasionally pick up work with a local modeling agency.

Do you have a digital portfolio I can look at?

Not at this time for several reasons. The main reason is that I have heard of two many instances of a makeup artist having their ideas and looks stolen by posting online portfolios. Additionally, I haven't put a clause in my contract asking to be able to post pictures of my clients online yet.

Do you have a hard copy portfolio I can look at?

Of course. If you are located in my area and are interested in hiring me I would be more than willing to show you my portfolio.

What sort of professional training do you have?

I have no professional training and have never taken a course in makeup. I am completely self taught. I never had a desire to take a course in cosmetology for two reasons. The first reason is that in a two year cosmetology course, they only usually cover makeup for about 2 months, and even then the training is fairly general. The second reason is that you don't need a degree or diploma to freelance - the only time you need a degree or diploma is if you want to work in a spa or a salon, and I was never interested in working in either one.

Do you think you know everything about makeup?

Of course not... nobody does. I have always been in a state of continuous learning. There is always so much to learn about color and style. The day I stop learning is the day I will stop doing makeup, because if I stop learning my techniques will become obsolete.

What advice do you have for aspiring Makeup Artists?
Follow your dreams, no matter what anybody says. Devour every resource you can find including books, the Internet and YouTube. Keep yourself fresh and up to date by reading magazines, watching television and watching music videos. Practice and experiment as much as you can, and don't be afraid to be different.

Where do your inspirations come from?

My inspiration can come from anything from a sunset, to a poster, to a picture... everything inspires me. I also read magazines, watch television and watch music videos for inspiration.

Do I need to use the products you use in your videos?

No, of course not. I quite often say in my videos to work with what you've got. Just because I might use NYX hot pink in a video doesn't mean you can't acheive the same look by using a hot pink shade from another makeup company.

What are your favorite brands of makeup?

My favorite makeup brands are NYX, Physician's Formula and Prestige. I find I get just as good of quality as higher end brands at a fraction of the price.

What kind of camera do you use to film your videos and take pictures?

Until the third week of July 2009 I used the FijiFilmS1500, so all videos made prior to July 20, 2009 were made using that camera. Unfortunately, at some point during the third week of July 2009 my camera was stolen and I had to buy a new one. All videos after July 20, 2009 have been filmed with a Sony HandiCam DCR-SX40.

What do you use to edit your videos?

I use Windows Movie Maker. It's free, and it's not to hard to use. Editing is not one of my strong skills, but I'm getting used to it...

Can I make requests for certain looks or tutorials?

Yes, most definitely. I love getting requests. Please note that I may not do every single request, and that it may take me a couple of weeks to get to a request. Besides my work as a makeup artist, I also have 4 children (whom I homeschool), and a house to clean.

Do you read/answer your comments and messages?

Yes, I read every comment and message sent to me on YouTube and answer every one of them, even if it's only to say "thank you". I am so grateful for all of my subscribers... I never dreamed that I would have any, so each of you is a dream come true and the least I can do is answer your questions and comments to show you how much I appreciate you.

I have a cosmetics/makeup company. Can I sponsor your YouTube channel?

I would be more than willing to entertain the possibility of being sponsored. I have to be true to my subscribers, so I will only accept sponsorships for products that I believe to be of good quality that I can comfortably recommend. If you would like to discuss the possibility of sponsoring me, please contact me using the contact me button on this blog.

I have a cosmetics/makeup company. Will you review my products?

I would love the opportunity to review your products. However, I reserve the right to give an honest and fair review, and will never recommend a product that I truly don't like.
